”Sea Turquoise Delay (STD) is a manifestation of the sound that delay effects have been seeking. Enjoy the STD sound that is nothing like any other delay effects.”
– Bjorn Juhl
The delay effect has evolved uniquely over time. It started out with various trials and failures with blank records, magnetic discs, and oil cans and went on to the generation of tape echo using magnetic tape.
While expensive digital delays have been developed for studio use, compact and reasonable BBD analogue delay pedals boomed and delay became widely available as companies developed compact digital delays using their original digital delay chips.
After that, a highly functional high-end digital delay was created along with the introduction of DSP chips. As they became widely available as compact pedals, people feared that BBD chips would disappear and produced many delay effects using compact digital delay chips including the PT2399 that would replace the BBD.
Looking back at the time before the arrival of digital delay, delay effects have always been evolving to seek higher quality sound, which is what BJF paid attention to.
What was the delay effect engineers in the past dreamed of? What would happen if it was reproduced with modern technologies?
Sea Turquoise Delay offers a delay effect that is unique among the existing delay effects.
The pristine and clear delay tones never existed with pre-digital delay technologies but the sound created by Sea Turquoise Delay contains tones that remind us of vintage “echo.”
If the digital delay is too clear, it stands out too much and interferes with play. However, the delay sound created with Sea Turquoise Delay supports the play and remains in a supporting position with its overwhelmingly pristine and clear tones.
Sea Turquoise Delay creates unique textures like perfectly clear water and forms delay tones that are not simply reproducing the original sound.
When the F. Back knob is set higher, you can see the sound of Sea Turquoise Delay isn’t simply clear.
No matter how clear water is, light does not penetrate deep into the sea. Sea Turquoise Delay allows delays that go on forever, but the tones gradually fall apart as the repeat continues and eventually become reduced to choppy low-fi sound over time.
This machine doesn’t simply replay the sound that was entered. It creates a tune with natural and actual presence when combined with a subtle decay of the sound. This is the moment that BJF’s unique sensitivity is highlighted.
This sound property prevents a delay from coming out too strong even with a clean signal and manifests itself in a sound that makes tones perfectly solid when combined with distortion. When the delay time is shortened, it provides effects that make us imagine a magnificent space behind it. Sea Turquoise Delay is extremely simple and compact but has an immense world inside.
The LEVEL Control allows specific delay level adjustment so that the original sound and delay are configured to be 1:1 maximum. You can set the delay level freely and enjoy various sounds from subtle reverse to tricky plays.
If you change the delay time with the DELAY Control while Sea Turquoise Delay is one, you can create a unique sound. If you set the DELAY while F. BACK is set high, you can even enjoy chaotic sound that adds sudden distortion to the beautiful space in place.
If you set the DELAY low, it creates a very short delay just like a doubling delay. Turn up F. BACK now and you get the continuous sounds like glitch and tremolo.
Sea Turquoise Delay is made in a special structure for a delay pedal. This is a high response delay pedal with a high dynamics range that captures all the sounds provided. Its noise level is a work of ingenuity that allows the realization of such sounds.
Sea Turquoise Delay features true bypass switching that leaves no delay signal when the effect is turned off so that the endless repeats can be actively incorporated.
When the effect is on, the delay signal is muted and the delay is gradually added to signals as if you were being guided into a new world.
Sea Turquoise Delay also has kill drive switch to prepare for usage in parallel effect loops.
